Millgate Farm Grass Fed Beef

Tod and Shelley Mogren are the hard working couple who operate Millgate Farm which is located in Austinburg Township, Ashtabula County, Ohio. The farm has been in the family since 1961 and includes 235 acres of woodland and pasture with Mill Creek running through it. Tod started his farming operation by renovating the fields to produce a hay crop and pasture. He then built a beef barn beside the 100 year old bank barn to be able to raise 30-40 head of Maine Anjou/Black Angus beef. Thus the beginning of the Grass Fed Beef operation and sale of wrapped, frozen retail cuts of beef at the Farmers' Markets in and around Cleveland, Ohio. This could be a long interesting story that starts here:

Why Grass Fed? Think about it. Cows are meant to thrive on grass (hay and balage in the winter). Their digestive tracts (4 stomachs) are not geared to handle corn, soybeans and all the other stuff thrown at them in commercial feedlots. According to the web site eatwild.com, grass fed products are lower in total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol and calories, and contain more Vitamin E, beta-carotene and vitamin C when compared to feedlot beef. Very important is the higher ratio of Omega 3 fatty acid to Omega 6 fatty acid.

In addition, the animals are not given Antibiotics or Growth Hormones and the feed does not contain soy, corn or animal byproducts. If this isn't enough to convince you of its healthy attributes, consider that the meat has a much better flavor and is easier to digest.
